Join Roger for a Big Festive Sing with the Fabulous Festiv Choir
His Fabulous Festival Choir is a Festival highlight for hundreds every year and it wouldn't be a Towersey event without a sing!
Learn the parts in advance and then join Roger on the day to have a bash. Always great fun.
There are 2 seasonal songs to learn :
The King. A St Stephen’s Day tradition was to catch a wren and take it around the village to display it and collect money or food. The Wren is associated in Celtic mythology with the passing of the year. The Wren is known for singing even in Mid Winter, and earned the name “The Winter King”
This version draws from Steeleye Span’s recording on “Please to see the King”.
Sweet Bells may be known to you from Kate Rusby’s Christmas album.
It’s a traditional Sheffield / West Gallery style carol and like so many of those uses words from the Psalms in a polyphonic verse, but instead of going into a fugue-ing second part, this one has a fun chorus attached to it.
Sheffield carols are still sung in various pubs around south Yorkshire.
