shooting roots youth project

for everyone aged 12-25

Shooting Roots does exactly what is says -  it takes a shooting root and nurtures it.  It gives an opportunity for those with amazing ambition, artistic ideas and energy to develop their own skills, work with others, share opportunities and the excitement of being involved at the grass roots of a folk festival.

Led by Director Laurel Swift, Shooting Roots first developed in Sidmouth Festival nearly 15 years ago, and now works with folk festivals all over the county.

We're already looking forward to welcoming you to Shooting Roots at Towersey 2010! Shooting Roots is the place to meet other young people, learn some great folky stuff, and generally have fun!

Dance - Two excellent dance teams will put you through your paces! Have a ball learning two exhilarating dance forms with the cream of the crop! Rapper Sword and Step dance with Gaorsach Rapper and Cotswold Morris with Nonesuch Morris.

Theatre has some exciting new developments; we're always looking for a way to get the audience closer to theatre performances and we finally think we've cracked it! 2010 promises to be a very exciting year for Shooting Roots theatre!

Music - Two choices of instrumental workshop! Funky World Band once again needs you - learn some great grooves and easy tunes and enjoy playing them as part of Towersey's largest outfit! The Ceilidh Project is a laid back, fun workshop where you get loads of say in what tunes you learn and who you play them with! The tutors will help you learn how to make these tunes highly danceable!

Song - Singers have their own dedicated workshop, covering a variety of things from vocal technique, folk ornaments and harmonisation to simply getting stuck in and learning some gorgeous songs and singing them with a big group of lovely people!

When you have finished your day of playing, singing, dancing and acting you will have made some new friends that you can enjoy the rest of the Festival with, be it concerts, ceilidhs, or the Festival Dance House with the opportunity to dance till you drop!

Towersey Village Festival and Shooting Roots offer a brilliant end to your summer holidays.

We look forward to seeing you.
