folk group klosterneuberg

Klosterneuburg is a town situated very close to Vienna. The Towersey Folk Group of Klosterneuburg is especially formed for the Towersey Village Festival and consists of 14 musicians including Viennese yodellers.

This group consists of the best known musicians of the area who meet regularly at the local “Volksmusik-Stammtisch” to play together, most of them have been long standing members of the “Volkstanzgruppe Klosterneuburg”, the local dance group.

In Austrian folk music string instruments are as common as brass instruments, wooden flutes and Styrian-style button boxes. The musicians often play more than one instrument and are consequently members of more than one established music group. The Towersey Folk Group of Klosterneuburg for 2008 consists of members of the brass ensemble “Donautaler Dampfgebläse”, the string ensemble “Klosterneuburger Geigenmusik”, the mixed ensemble “G’mischter Satz Klosterneuburg”, the “Familienmusik Fuchs” and the Viennese music group “Liechtenthaler Quartett”. We therefore cover a wide range of common folk music and instruments of Austria. Most of the named groups have existed for more than 15 years.

The Austrian Folk music is a based on waltz time as well as common time (our polkas and “Boarische”) and mixtures thereof, the so-called “Zwiefache”. Twice a year there are folk music seminars for which three of our musicians are regular trainers.

Three composers, two of them well known in the Austrian Folk music scene, are joining the Towersey Folk Group of Klosterneuburg. Their tunes have been broadcast on radio and TV on several occasions. The aforementioned groups have already produced three CDs (“Aus’n Huat”, “Unta an Huat” and “Wienerisch mit dem Liechtenthaler Quartett” of their own and participated in CD productions for the regional Folk Authority (“Niederösterreichische Volkskultur”).
