Roy Bailey - Festival Patron

A message from our Festival Patron, Roy Bailey:

Towersey Village Festival is 46 years old in 2010. I feel considerable pride in the fact that I was present with Denis Manners and Louis Rushby when they had the idea that this small Oxfordshire village should have its own festival. That was in 1964. A year later the festival was born.

Over the years it has grown into a mature and large event, attracting folk singers, musicians and dancers from around the world and many thousands of people each year. It has nevertheless retained its essential qualities of family friendliness and the sense of intimacy. Children can still roam freely around the site and parents can relax in the knowledge their children are safe. Men and women have grown up here, got married and now bring their children. Of all the festivals at which I've had the privilege to appear, on many continents and in many countries, Towersey Village Festival still has a special and unique quality for me. August Bank Holiday weekend, more often than not, is where you'll find me, along with thousands of others, enjoying the music, the singing and the dancing. Come and join us! Get the Towersey habit!
